Datagrunnlaget viser at oppgangen av laks så langt har vært bra, og prognosene tilsier at gytebestandsmålet vil bli nådd dersom utviklingen fortsetter som forventet. Samtidig peker årets oppgang ikke mot en toppsesong. BJFF har derfor valgt å videreføre en føre-var-forvaltning, men med en moderat økning i sesongkvotene i henhold til forhåndsavtalte tiltak.

Nye regler fra 12. juli kl. 18.00

Fredning av laks
• Laks over 90 cm er fredet fra 12. juli kl. 18.00 og ut sesongen.
• Laks mellom 65 og 89 cm er fredet fra 20. juli kl. 18.00 og ut sesongen.
• Laks under 65 cm kan beskattes hele sesongen etter gjeldende kvoter

Nye sesongkvoter
• Bosatte i Berlevåg: 8 laks, hvorav inntil 3 kan være over 65 cm.
• Bosatte i Finnmark: 6 laks, hvorav inntil 2 kan være over 65 cm.
• Bosatte utenfor Finnmark: 4 laks, hvorav inntil 1 kan være over 65 cm.

Laks fanget tidligere i sesongen inngår i sesongkvoten.
Når sesongkvoten er tatt skal fisket avsluttes for resten av sesongen.

Døgnkvoter
• Maksimalt to avlivede laks. Frem til 20. juli kl. 18.00 kan én av disse være mellom 65 og 89 cm.
• Maksimalt tre laks totalt per fiskedøgn, inkludert gjenutsatt fisk.

Når en av disse grensene er nådd, skal fisket avsluttes for resten av fiskedøgnet.

Redskapsregler
Resten av sesongen er det «Lett fiske» og følgende redskaper er tillatt:
- Flue med flyteline og ufortynget flue – ut sesongen
- Mark uten søkke ut juli måned.

Status for bestanden
Fiskesesongen startet 20. juni med gode vandringsforhold for laksen og svært gode fiskeforhold for fiskerne. Dette har gitt en jevn og god oppgang av laks gjennom den første delen av sesongen. Det har også vært godt fiske i sone 2 fra sesongstart, noe som skyldes gode vann- og temperaturforhold som har gjort det lettere for laksen å passere Kongsfjordfossene.
Drivtellingene stemmer godt overens med både videotellingene og fangststatistikken, noe som gir god trygghet for at datagrunnlaget gir et riktig bilde av bestandssituasjonen.

Per 10. juli er det registrert noe færre oppvandrende laks enn på samme tidspunkt i 2025. Samtidig er andelen mellomlaks høyere enn i fjor. Per 10. juli utgjør mellom- og storlaks 35 % av oppgangen, mot 21 % på samme tidspunkt i 2025.

Fangststatistikken per 10. juli viser:
• Totalt fanget laks: 163
• Gjenutsatt: 85
• Avlivet: 78
• Smålaks: 46
• Mellomlaks: 32
• Storlaks: 0

Hvorfor justeres kvotene?
Før sesongstart ble fiskereglene fastsatt etter et føre-var-prinsipp, med lave sesongkvoter og beskyttelse av større laks.
Midtsesongevalueringen viser at oppgangen av smålaks har vært bra. Samtidig viser erfaringene fra Kongsfjordelva at smålaksen i hovedsak består av hannlaks. Det gir rom for en moderat økning i beskatningen uten at gytebestanden forventes å bli vesentlig påvirket.
Det er samtidig viktig å beskytte mellom- og storlaks, da disse utgjør hoveddelen av gytebestanden, og særlig hunnfisken. Fredningen av all laks fra 90 cm videreføres derfor, mens fredningen av laks mellom 65 og 89 cm innføres fra 20. juli.

Målet med endringene er å tilpasse beskatningen til den bestandssituasjonen vi faktisk ser i elva, samtidig som gytebestandsmålet sikres.

Vi vil samtidig rette en stor takk til alle fiskere som rapporterer fangst fortløpende og følger gjeldende regler. Den gode rapporteringsdisiplinen er avgjørende for at vi kan gjøre kunnskapsbaserte vurderinger underveis i sesongen. Vi setter stor pris på det gode samarbeidet og den forståelsen fiskerne viser 

BJFF vil følge utviklingen gjennom resten av sesongen. Dersom oppgangen av laks endrer seg vesentlig, eller andre forhold tilsier det, kan fiskereglene bli justert på nytt.

Mid-season update – Changes to fishing regulations in Kongsfjordelva

Current data show that the salmon run has been good so far, and projections indicate that the spawning target is likely to be achieved if the run continues as expected. At the same time, this year's run does not indicate an exceptional season. BJFF has therefore decided to maintain a precautionary management approach while implementing a moderate increase in the seasonal harvest quotas, in accordance with the measures agreed upon before the season.

New regulations effective from 12 July at 18:00

Protection of salmon

• Salmon over 90 cm are protected from 12 July at 18:00 for the remainder of the season.
• Salmon 65–89 cm are protected from 20 July at 18:00 for the remainder of the season.
• Salmon under 65 cm may be harvested throughout the season within the applicable quotas.

New seasonal quotas

• Residents of Berlevåg Municipality: 8 salmon, of which no more than 3 may be over 65 cm.
• Residents of Finnmark: 6 salmon, of which no more than 2 may be over 65 cm.
• Residents outside Finnmark: 4 salmon, of which no more than 1 may be over 65 cm.

Salmon harvested earlier in the season count toward the seasonal quota.

Once the seasonal quota has been reached, fishing for salmon must end for the remainder of the season.

Daily quotas

• A maximum of two harvested salmon per fishing day. Until 20 July at 18:00, one of these may be between 65 and 89 cm.
• A maximum of three salmon in total per fishing day, including catch-and-release fish.

Once either of these limits has been reached, salmon fishing must stop for the rest of that fishing day.

Fishing gear regulations

For the remainder of the season, light fishing only is permitted. The following gear may be used:

• Fly fishing with a floating line and an unweighted fly – throughout the season.
• Natural bait (worm) without added weight – until the end of July.

Status of the salmon stock

The fishing season opened on 20 June with favourable migration conditions for salmon and excellent fishing conditions. This has resulted in a steady and healthy salmon run during the first part of the season. Fishing in Zone 2 has also been productive since the opening, largely due to favourable water levels and temperatures that have allowed salmon to pass the Kongsfjord Falls more easily.

The drift counts correspond closely with both the video monitoring data and the catch statistics, giving us confidence that the available data provide an accurate picture of the current stock status.

As of 10 July, slightly fewer salmon have migrated upstream compared with the same date in 2025. However, the proportion of medium-sized salmon is higher than last year. By 10 July, medium and large salmon accounted for 35% of the run, compared with 21% on the same date in 2025.

Why are the quotas being adjusted?

Before the season started, the fishing regulations were established according to the precautionary principle, with low seasonal quotas and protection of larger salmon.

The mid-season evaluation shows that the run of small salmon has been strong. Experience from Kongsfjordelva indicates that the small salmon component mainly consists of males. This allows for a moderate increase in harvest without significantly affecting the spawning population.

At the same time, it remains important to protect medium and large salmon, as these make up the majority of the spawning stock, particularly the females. Therefore, the protection of all salmon over 90 cm remains in place, while protection of salmon between 65 and 89 cm will take effect from 20 July.

The purpose of these changes is to adapt the harvest to the actual status of the salmon stock while ensuring that the spawning target is achieved.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all anglers who report their catches promptly and comply with the regulations. Accurate and timely catch reporting is essential for making informed management decisions throughout the season. We greatly appreciate the cooperation and understanding shown by everyone fishing in Kongsfjordelva.

BJFF will continue to monitor the salmon run throughout the remainder of the season. Should the run change significantly, or if other circumstances require it, the fishing regulations may be revised again.
